Institute of Recruiters

The Institute of Recruiters (IOR) is a UK based organisation set up to promote high standards in recruitment, and to spread those recruitment practices across the world. Its members are drawn mainly from the Human Resources sector, but it is a multi-discipline organisation with many members from other industries.

All of its members follow an established code of conduct. The code meets the requirements of the Employment Agencies Standards Inspectorate (EAS), which is an executive division in the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

What the IOR offers its members

The IOR works to promote UK recruitment standards, but is also a one-stop shop for anyone involved in recruitment and human resources. It provides internationally recognised training for people at all levels of the industry, including CPD (Continuous Professional Development) courses. Its Ethics Champions have completed training that is accredited by the British Institute of Business Ethics (IBE).

The organisation is still evolving and adding more services. It has recently created apprenticeship training for those who are interested in working within the HR and recruitment industries.

The Institute of Recruiters team tracks changes in regulations that have a direct impact on the HR and recruitment industries. This enables it to provide up to date information that is relevant to all of its members. Importantly, its members also get access to free legal advice.

There is a number of ways for members to interact with the IOR team. From its website, members can use their Ask the Experts service to get advice that is tailored to their specific company and needs. It already has experts in the field of social media, employment law, in-house HR, agency recruitment, and is adding new experts all the time.

Importantly, the IOR is recognised by the Government. This means that the organisation can act as a voice for those working in the recruitment industry. It makes itself available for consultation and actively lobbies for change.
